Today we talk about August Construction Solutions, Inc. and we sit down with the Founder and President, Michael Iovino to learn more about the Company.

Tell us about your company. What kind of product or service do you provide?
ACS is a national general contractor specializing in retail construction. We are ready to offer any services that our clients request of us. The company is less than five years old but the breadth of our experienced personnel is significant.
How many employees does your company currently have? Do you have offices in different States?
We have over 20 employees. Our main office is in Raleigh, NC. We have an office in Nashville, TN. Our plan is to open a West Coast office by the end of 2018.
What inspired the business and where is your company today?
After moving from the owner side to the GC end, I wanted to learn the ins and outs of contracting and embraced the entrepreneurial spirit. Starting in 1999, I was fortunate that everyone at Dickinson Cameron afforded me the opportunity to learn each aspect of owning and operating this type of business. I transferred these skills to Hammer Construction, in 2011, where revenue increased 400% in one year. I was confident with the experience and staff in place that ACS would be a successful startup. We have gone from $47,000 in sales in 2013 to more than $9,900,000 in 2014 and have been constantly moving forward since. In 2016 we were named one of the Top 50 fastest growing companies in the Triangle region of NC by The Triangle Business Journal. I am proud of this award since we are an old economy company in an incredibly tech driven region.
In which geographic area did you complete the majority of your projects?
California and New York with an appreciation of the Southeast and anywhere in between.
Is your company specialized in completing projects in a specific industry, e.g. Food & Beverage?
We specialize in retail but have been branching into office and food and beverage to diversify our client base in changing times.
Tell us about one specific project you worked on and which challenges you solved?
It is not often that we get to work close to home. In 2015 we embarked on a five project redevelopment of an industrial area in downtown Raleigh. It was a rewarding and enjoyable project spanning more than 63 weeks. In the end, ACS and its business partners were lauded, by our contemporaries, for turning a neglected, empty part of Raleigh into a vibrant mix of office and entertainment venues by overhauling existing buildings and maintaining the character of the structures. Most reasonable people would have demolished each building. ACS and its partners chose the more difficult path. The challenges and obstacles were countless.
Which milestones are you planning to achieve in the next 12 months?
We are looking to attain $20 million in revenue by the end of 2017.
What is the one piece of business advice that you never got?
I have been fortunate to have worked for and with an incredibly talented collection of people who all prided themselves on business integrity. I have learned valuable lessons that equipped me to start ACS and shepherd its rapid growth. I credit the people, throughout my career, that have made it impossible to come up with an answer for this question.
