Gabriela Hearst Just Opened the Most Beautiful Store in New York City

It’s been just three and a half years since the designer launched her eponymous brand and recently she has opened her first boutique in the primest real estate in Manhattan at 985 Madison Avenue adjacent to the New York institution that is the Carlyle Hotel.

Distinguishing the flagship from its neighbors is its centerpiece, a large U-shaped sofa by the Istanbul-based design firm Autoban upholstered in white cashmere. “I wanted this to feel like a home,” Hearst says.

The U-shaped couch flanks a coffee table display of her new jewelry, which is available only in the store. It faces a giant picture window in front of which an endless stream of pedestrians, including not a few who work at rival fashion brands, stop to gawk.

Angelo Michilli, President of Michilli Inc said “the Gabriela Hearst flagship on Madison Avenue was a 1,550 SF project that followed a 3-month construction schedule. A primary focus throughout the project was sustainability. During the demolition phase, the majority of waste materials from the removal of prior tenant improvements was recycled rather than sent to a landfill. After the demo-phase, we executed Zari Architect’s design which emphasized the use of untreated and sustainable materials such as reclaimed oak and natural marble. The lighting systems were designed to be energy-efficient, automatically dimming when no activity is registered.”
