Tell us about your company. What kind of product or service do you provide?
Atelier Design is a full-service architecture and interior design firm. We design bespoke environments for high-end retail stores, luxury residences, as well as some select projects in the hospitality sector.
How many employees does your company currently have? Do you have offices in different States?
We are a small boutique firm of nine employees. We pride ourselves on our ability to offer individualized attention to each client. We are currently operating solely out of our office in midtown Manhattan, but we have our sights set on opening a small office in Greenwich or Westport, CT to better serve our residential clients.
What inspired the business and where is your company today?
After moving about the industry for many years, having worked for top architecture firms and within retail development of a few luxury designers, I started to entertain the idea of going out on my own. When I met my wife, an interior designer trained at Parsons, we knew that we would be able to offer clients the perfect package of both architecture and interior design. This inspired our company’s focus on involvement from conception to completion.
We are proud to say that Atelier Design is now an established name in the industry. We count many beautiful stores, residences, and restaurants on our list of achievements. We have numerous regular clients who are at the heart of our business.
In which geographic area did you complete the majority of your projects?
Our completed projects are located across the U.S., with the majority being in New York, Southern Florida, and Los Angeles. We’ve also done projects on four other continents, with notable locations in London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Seoul, and Melbourne
Is your company specialized in completing projects in a specific industry, e.g. Food & Beverage?
Atelier Design specializes in completing projects for high-end retail designers. We count Roberto Cavalli, Moncler, Giorgio Armani, and Club Monaco among our retail clients.
Tell us about one specific project you worked on and which challenges you solved?
We worked on Club Monaco’s flagship store, located in a landmark building on Fifth Avenue. One challenge was to work within landmark limitations to refurbish the existing facade and also make accessibility modifications to the store. We accomplished this by extending the store’s footprint to include an additional entrance. Another challenge involved attending to several different programs for the store. We designed installations for a women’s store, separate men’s level, coffee shop, book store, and resident florist. We managed to create a cohesive flow between all of these spaces, while imparting a cozy, intimate feel to a mansion-like space.
Which milestones are you planning to achieve in the next 12 months?
We are hoping to diversify into other sectors of retail design and tap into newly emerging players in the marketplace.
What is the one piece of business advice that you never got?
Sometimes the projects with the most challenges presented are also the most rewarding!
