Last week I had the pleasure of attending the opening event for the beautiful new Suitsupply store in Boston. The experience highly exceeded my expectations. It is a stunning store.
Fokke de Jong, Suitsupply’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said, “The opening of our 100th location is a milestone for Suitsupply. We’ve built a global brand that excites customers. In a time when many brands are closing stores, we believe there is more growth ahead of us than behind us. People are drawn to Suitsupply because of the energy and flair we bring to tailoring. They want to experience our brand and product both in person and online. We’re excited for the future and see much opportunity ahead.”

I walked the four floors “men retail cave” with the whole team involved in the project, Adam Hirsch and Dan Scibisz from Hirsch Construction, Louis Loria and Rico Gatmaitan from Atmosphere Design Group and the awesome Suitsupply Senior Project Manager Arman Bahram.
Talking with all of them about the details, difficulties and overall experience of the project was really interesting. Clearly, this team made a difference and I’m very happy that 4URSPACE brought them together.
The project took 24 weeks of construction. The building previously had retail space at the ground and second floor and residential units on the top floors.
In the basement, there was one of the oldest bars in Boston, Daisy Buchanan’s. Suitsupply remodeled the bar/lounge and now is the perfect spot for men that want to enjoy a drink after work or while waiting for their suits to be custom tailored. You can literally see the tailor shop from the bar
One of the impressive design elements of the store is the stair. The structure connects the three floors and it was designed and custom produced in Europe.
The use of different and colorful wallpapers is predominant all around the store creating an inviting and comfortable environment in each area. To be honest, you really do not want to leave the store once you are in.
Louis Loria, Principal of Atmosphere Design Group said “As usual, there is always a sublime tension between Design, Schedule, and Cost, and this project had amplified versions of all three. Additionally, building a finely designed store with incredibly tight tolerances inside of an old Victorian style building in the city of Boston added to the challenge. Everybody on the team worked through every issue and solved every schedule ending problem very effectively. No one ever said we can’t or that’s impossible. OK, maybe once or twice but the team soon convinced those in doubt and in the end we created a beautiful store.”
Dan Scibisz, V.P. Construction Operations at Hirsch Construction Corp. said “While building on Newbury street always comes with certain difficulties, the nuances of this Flagship build-out were extremely challenging. The coordination with European design and millwork firms, Historical building and Architectural design challenges, and the incorporation of a bar/lounge into the retail environment this project required an enormous amount of effort in a tight construction schedule. By maintaining open lines of communication the entire team worked diligently through the issues and constructability, all the while always maintaining focus on the expected completion date. Through effective planning, and coordination of the work, we were able to meet that end date, and turnover an amazing retail store.”
