JIMMY CHOO – 699 Madison Av. New York,
It is very well known that high-end retail companies “request” to work with General Contractors that are capable to keep up with their unrealistic schedules, continuous design changes but absolutely fascinating projects.
Today we talk about HIRSCH CONSTRUCTION CORP. and we sit down with the President Adam Hirsch to learn more about the Company.

Tell us about your company. What kind of product or service do you provide?
We are a national retail General Contractor that provides a full spectrum of construction services to our US and international clients. We perform CM / negotiated projects, as well as competitive bids on retail, restaurant, office and hospitality projects.
How many employees does your company currently have? Do you have offices in different States?
We currently employ 18 office staff and 15 superintendents that travel throughout the country. Our corporate headquarters is just north of Boston, with satellite offices in Boston’s Back Bay, Madison Ave NYC, and my brother Jesse recently opened an office in Houston, TX.
What inspired the business and where is your company today?
My father Steven Hirsch began as a carpenter working as a subcontractor when malls first began to sprout up in the early 80’s in Western, MA. He did such a fabulous job, that the retailers took notice of him and his crew, and asked if he could build for them in other parts of the country. He took advantage of this opportunity and with an estimator and project manager, began to get licensed to build across the country. From there, luxury retailers heard about him, and began to take him to the higher end neighborhoods. I joined the company about 15 years ago, and my passion led me to focus on this high end clientele. We now work with the most luxurious interiors in the world. The best part is that some of the original employees, John Surowiec, VP of Estimating and Dan Scibisz, VP of Project Management are still with us to this day.
In which geographic area did you complete the majority of your projects?
We like to work in all major US cities where our high profile clients would be.
Boston, NYC, Philly, DC, Miami, Chicago, LA and Northern CA are the majority. However, if our clients have projects anywhere, and want our team, we make it happen. We recently completed projects in Seattle, Honolulu, and various other cities across USA.
Is your company specialized in completing projects in a specific industry, e.g. Food & Beverage?
Our bread and butter is luxury retail, however we often find ourselves building for restaurant and hospitality groups, high end office space and even a luxury downtown condo a few times per year. We also have great success working on retail, restaurant and airline lounge projects in major US airports. We love fast paced, high end interiors wherever they may be.
Tell us about one specific project you worked on and which challenges you solved?
When we were asked to build Google’s first store in NYC last year, we were all very excited. Then their team told us that it absolutely had to be completed in 3 weeks’ time! I was proud of our team’s ability to share their can do attitude, and worked night and day to make it happen, never looking back, never complaining, and never making excuses. We got it done, and when all of the executives flew in for the pre-opening, it was pure joy to see the smiles and the surprise on their faces at the complete transformation that was accomplished in such a short time.

Which milestones are you planning to achieve in the next 12 months?
We have been building retail for approx. 35 years, and plan to never stop. We have been strict with ourselves to grow, but not too fast. We have recently engaged in many new technologies to make us more efficient; resulting in an even better building experience for our partners and clients. The use of Procore and 360 Cameras have been exciting to implement and really help us collaborate with all members of our project teams.
What is the one piece of business advice that you never got?
Under promise, over perform. I have always wanted to truly satisfy our clients every wish. When clients would ask of us to perform the impossible, I would jump and commit to tasks immediately, without fully digesting or reviewing with my team. I still rarely say “ no” but I’m working on it 🙂
What do you like most about 4URSPACE?
I love that 4URSPACE is a platform that is specific to this wild and crazy industry we are in. Retail construction is a small world, and it is wonderful to have 4URSPACE dedicated to our niche. We do not advertise, and thus it is really great that 4URSPACE can help bring our brand to prospective customers.
